Who's Birginia?

My name has always been an interesting part of my life. My mom liked the name Virginia because she had a friend in college with that name and came to really like it.

For as long as I can remember, I've been "Ginner", which is another interesting name. None of us know how I got it, but somehow it stuck. When I introduce myself as Ginner people give me the strangest look. If I happen to be shaking hands with them as I say my name, they just keep shaking my hand while looking confused. Let go already dude, my name is Ginner.

I love my name, but it has definitely given me some interesting stories...

For example, when I was a cashier at walmart a 70 year old man said "So, is Virginia for lovers?". Um, gross.

At my high school graduation they announced me as Virginia Saint. My 5 year old neighbor looked at Esther and said "Who's Birginia?"

I needed to exchange a pair of shoes so I called up Nike to get things going. I gave the guy my credit card information for the exchange and then he said "And what's your name?". He thought that Virginia was my mother. Jerk, that's my name.

And just today I was talking to the geico lady and she was telling me about discounts that could come from the state. She said "For example, if Virginia, I mean Pennsylvania, were to blah blah blah." I didn't hear the end of that sentence because I was too busy trying to keep my laughter silent.

Also, my phone/iPad/spellchecker all hate my name. Every time I type Ginner it's changed to "gunner" or "ginned". Oy vey.

All that said, I love my name. One of these days I'll grow into it, but for now I think I'll just stick to Ginner.

Pet Number One

Though a dog was always my preference, we got a cat when I was little.  I remember going to pick him up.  I remember thinking he was so cute and sweet.  Boy was I wrong.  Well, I was half wrong.

Oh he was definitely a cute cat.  He had soft, fluffy hair.  A long, fluffy tail.  A cute little nose.

And that's where it ends.

Though he may have looked innocent, Tigger was far from it.  He was mean and nasty.  He never let you hold him and he would glare at you if you sat on the couch with him.  Waking him up from his nap was a mortal sin, punishable by death.

This is not a poorly timed picture.  Ya know, ones of those pictures where you catch someone halfway through blinking.  Nope, this is just how Tigger looked at you.   Yeah, and people say animals don't have emotions.

I can specifically recall many incidents when Tigger chased me off furniture with clawing and biting.  I can also remember using a pillow to defend myself.  So I was a wuss, get over it.  But if you had known Tigger you would have been scared too!

Let's Play a Game

It's called "Where's the treat?"  All you have to do to be successful at this game is to find the treat.

Yeah, I know.  Easy game.

Getting Charlie to pose for a picture is easy, as long as you don't mind never having eye contact.

One of the cutest parts of Charlie is her ears.  There are so many shades of brown in those ears.

This photo might be my favorite of the day.  The chaos and disaster that is my apartment behind the calm and focused Charlie.

A Contest

I'm entering a contest on I Am Momma - Hear Me Roar.  It's a contest for boy's t-shirts.  I'm entering two of my favorites that I made for Camo.

My little nephew, Cameron, turned one on March 22nd.  I made him this shirt to honor his Italian heritage.  And boy, is he ever Italian.  The little guy spends 5 minutes in the sun and he gets a tan.

For some reason, I just thought Cam needed a tie, so I made him one.

It's those eyes, they get me every time.  He already got strawberry stains on the shirt.  I think the stains make the shirt more authentic.

The Reveal

Cameron's birthday party was Sunday.  So I finally got to give him his present.

This shirt has no particular story, I just liked the design.

Frank has a Pink Bike shirt that he wears almost every other day (or so it seems).  I felt it was appropriate that his son have one as well.

Once again, not a lot of meaning, but every boy needs a tractor shirt.

This was actually attempt number two of a tie.  The design for the first one was not very good.   It didn't have a stripe and the "one" looked like "ode."  It needed to be redone, and I'm much happier with the second attempt.

I had been planning on doing a shirt with the words "italian stallion" but I quickly changed my mind.  I assumed the term referred to Sylvester Stallone or a strong Italian.  Boy was a I wrong.  If you don't know what it means, take a look at urban dictionary.  Enough said.

But of all the presents that Cam got, he liked his bike the best.

Getting my hands dirty

My drive home from work yesterday was definitely not something I enjoyed.  I walked out of school to a flat tire.  Oh yes, what a super fun way to end the day! Luckily, Lisa helped me change the tire and put on the spare.  I don't know what brilliant mind invented that thing, but I have something to say about it.  What the heck were they thinking?  I might as well have driven home on a tire from a kid's tricycle.  In fact, the tricycle tire might be bigger.

My dad, who is normally 90 minutes away, was only 20 minutes away.  Sweet!  He came by to help me out.  Thank goodness for dads.

The first step was to determine the problem.  While pumping air into the tire, dump a little soapy water on the potential hole.  If bubbles appear, you have found the problem.  Looks like we found it.

After getting a tire repair kit from Walmart, we plugged the hole and it was time to put the tire back on.

Let's just say that I now know how to change a tire, but let's leave out the part where Dad and I had a piece left over...

The Countdown Begins

I can't wait for Camo to open his present.  The suspense is killing me!

A Hint

This weekend I have been working on Cam's birthday present.  He is turning one on March 22nd.  It's already been a whole year!  It's incredible.  I'm so thankful for that brown eyed boy.

I want his present to be a surprise, but I'm dying to show a little something.

Spoiled

Since I was going to be spending a lot of time on the computer I thought I would set Charlie up for the evening.  I put the ottoman against the window so that she could see out.

She approves.  And I know, she's spoiled.  But if I'm going to avoid her than at least she should be comfortable.  Man I can't wait til that beard is trimmed.

Latte Bowls

I bought these bowls at Anthropolgie
last December.  I am in love with  them.  It probably took me 20 minutes to pick my colors, but it was worth it.  Eating out of these bowls makes life a little bit sweeter.

The Hotdog

Lately, I have been passing this door in wonder.  I mean, walls always get scuff marks, but I couldn't figure out how this was happening.  Then last night I had an epiphany.

Say hello to the hotdog.  This is one of Charlie's favorite toys.  She often brings me this toy while I'm sitting on the couch.  I pick the toy up, chuck it across the room and bounce it off the wall.

Hmm....no wonder there are red scuff marks all over the door.

Pillow Fail

Mom and I have been doing a lot of sewing lately.  Ok, Mom has been sewing and I have been scheming.  After seeing Cam's gorgeous quilt, I wanted one of my own.  I'm not sure Mom knew what she was getting into when she said yes.  I'm not a perfectionist in the average sense.  My self-diagnosis is tetrisitis.  Things need to fit together perfectly.  If not, well, I just can't handle it.  I even organize my sock drawer.

All that said, Mom and I started sewing a pillow cover Saturday night using some leftover scraps from my quilt.  Major pillow fail!  Mom measured, I designed, we both cut, and Mom did all the sewing.

Pretty much every step went wrong:
1. Mom measured the pillow wrong.
2. I designed my pillow wrong.
3. Mom helped me cut, but I was in charge of the measurements - which I got wrong.
4. Mom did a fantastic job of sewing, but I looked at the final piece and realized I didn't like how the fabrics ended up.  Mom, being the patient mother that she is, took it apart and redid it to appease my tetrisitis.
5. Because we moved a row in the middle we had to move a row at the bottom.
6. Because our measurements were wrong we ended up cutting off the bottom row anyway.
7. See, everything went wrong.

Even though we messed up every step, we still ended up with a fantastic pillow.  By the way, it looks awesome on my couch.

No Monkeyshine

Esther, the Culberts and I headed to the Philadelphia Zoo on Saturday to enjoy some time together and the beautiful weather.  This was attempt number one at a photo of all the kiddies.

This is attempt number four.  We can't seem to get everyone to be smiling at the same time, so why not have some fun with it?

I have never been this close to a lion before. And let me tell you, I'm very glad there was glass between us.

It must be tough being a giraffe.  Bending down is hard work.  See the pile of poo in the bottom corner?  Lukey saw that and then this conversation happened:

Lukey: "Why do you give us that much chocolate chips?"
Esther: "Those aren't chocolate chips."

We took one last picture of the Culbert fam as we got ready to leave the park.  Once again, everyone is doing their own thing.

On our way out we passed a wall of graffiti.  Emily saw a photo opportunity and posed.  Her shoes even matched the wall!

Esther has a good picture of me and a gorilla on her phone, but you'll just have to wait on that one.

For My Favorite Nephew

A blogger is holding a contest for little boy's t-shirts.  To enter this design in the contest I think I actually have to make the shirt.  Even if I don't make the shirt I still enjoyed designing it.

I have some good inspiration.

My little terrier

Charlie loves to go for walks.  Usually when I ask her "the question" I am still getting ready in the bedroom.  So she runs sprints back and forth between the front door and the bedroom.
