Uh Oh, I'm in trouble.

I found it.

Don't tell Mom, but I found Charlie's coat.  The coat I lost months ago.  The coat the I searched everywhere for; living room, closets, bedroom, bathroom, storage area and kitchen (I searched each place at least 3 times).   And the whole time it was right there, in my laundry room, I place I go every day.

Mom kept asking "Did you find the bag you kept her stuff in?"  Hey Mom, guess what, I found the bag.

Can you guess what was in the bag?  Charlie's coat.

Mom lovingly bought Charlie a new coat for Christmas and she looks very nice in it.   I love both coats.

When I told Charlie the news, she looked at me, took a drink and then walked away.  She could care less, but I was very excited!

I got my wish!

I got the call for a 2 hour delay last night around 10.  This morning at 6:50 I got the call that we were closed for the day.  Amen.  I felt like a student again, I was so excited that I couldn't fall back asleep.

Our snow day started with a walk to the mailbox to drop off my netflix movie, but when I got to the mailbox I realized I had forgotten the movie.  So we went for a walk instead.

It was a little deep for this pooch, but she still had fun.

She likes to stay to the path well traveled.

I like that she has a little bit of snow on her nose.  Everything seems to get stuck in that beard.  Also, while we were walking today Charlie got complimented on her coat.

Someday I will live in a house like this....someday

Dog butt.  A cute dog butt, in my humble opinion.

I spy two snowmen.

I'm going to Katy's house later today to hang out and enjoy the snow day.  Charlie and I went down to check the roads and see how things were.  Doesn't look too good, but it's still early and I'm not afraid of a little snow.

This is what the winter is all about.

Snow? Yes please!

Charlie and I have been enjoying the snow.  We took a long walk tonight in the snow, which basically consisted of Charlie running, sniffing and going to the bathroom.

Charlie really wanted to go outside.  I had opened the door to take some pics and she tried to sneak out.  No way Jose.

I felt like we were stepping out of the wardrobe into Narnia.

This was my first attempt at getting a picture of Charlie in the snow using my iPhone app.  Fail.  But I still kind of love it because there's a little doggie in the top left corner.

And even though this one is blurry, I still love it.  The snow is wonderful.  Now if I could just get a snow day...

Planning, EEK!

Esther and I are taking a trip to Boston. We are going to be gone over my Easter break.

I'm having flash backs to our vacations when I was little. I remember seeing mom and dad, with maps all over the table, discussing where we were going to go and how we were going to get there. I remember highlighters and pens marking the destinations and routes. I remember taking trips to AAA to get bochures. I also remember beng completely bored with the whole process. I was a kid and all I cared about was where we were going, when we were going and how long it would take to get there.

Now that I'm planning my own trip, I am glad I don't have to rely on maps and brochures, and thats not just because I could get lost in my own apartment. I've spent several hours figuring out what we should do in Boston. I arrived home today to find a guide book of new England tours waiting at my door (thank you Esther). Every minute I spent researching this trip included the internet, google maps and good, ol fashion paper and pen.

I could not have planned this trip without the Internet. I cant imagine having to rely on a map to get you where you need to go. I plan on being attached to our GPS.

But I will tell you this. All this planning has made me anxious for our trip. And though we still have a lot of details to work out, I know it's going to be amazing.

I'm starting to see a pattern

Charlie has adopted my bed as her own.  Though I've had this bed for a year and a half, this is a new development.

There was a time that I would worry when I hadn't seen Charlie in over 5 minutes.  I never knew what she would be chewing or getting into.

Now I know exactly where to look.  And yes, she is in there.  It was my first day back to work in the new year and Charlie was not ready to get out of bed.

This one happened today.  I got out of bed to go to the bathroom and came back to find this.  But I can't complain.  She hasn't peed on the bed in a long time.  And besides...

Who can resist this face?

Approved

I've realized over the past two years that being an adult is more complicated than it looks.  I think maybe I always knew this, but I just figured I'd be good at it right away.  After two years, I think I'm finally on my way to getting it.  There are definitely days when spending extra money at Target seems like a wonderful idea...until I get home and check my account.  I still have panic attacks that I have forgotten to pay my rent or missed my alarm for work.  But overall, I think I'm doing a pretty good job.

My parents, who are so gracious and giving, paid for my college education, something I am grateful for more and more each day.  I left West Chester without a single bill staring me down. I began my career with a clean slate.  I was debt free and on my way to adulthood!  And then I tried to buy a couch.  A simple, small, $700 couch from Sam's.  Just something to get me started.  CREDIT DENIED.  Then I applied for a loan.  DENIED.  Then I applied for several different credit cards.  DENIED! DENIED! DENIED!  Are you seeing a trend?  Me too.  I couldn't even get a Target card.  Since when did Target have such high standards?  Though my credit score was great, my credit history was nonexistent.  I was finally approved for a secured deposit loan (long story, too boring, not telling it).  Seven months after my first attempt, I went couch shopping again.

I am finally getting a couch.  But not just any couch, this is the couch of my dreams.  It's completely my style and completely comfortable.  It even comes with a cute baby who constantly tries to escape.

I will also be getting this chair and an ottoman.  All will arrive in February in the fabulously wonderful color Mineral.  I can't wait.

Here is where I tell you the most exciting part of this whole experience.  It wasn't when I finally decided to go for it.  It wasn't when Cam sat on the couch and I pictured us cuddling while watching Toy Story.  And it wasn't when I laid down and realized the amazing naps I am going to take.

Those were all fantastic, but nope, no favorite there.

It happened when I was waiting for my credit to be approved.  Before walking away the salesman said "This could be a few minutes."  As soon as he walked away the little credit check box showed something I never thought I'd see.  I looked at my mom and excitedly whispered "Holy S!&* I got approved."

For Sale?

Recently, I created these tags with the idea of selling them.  I am thinking about either starting an Etsy shop or selling them to local consignment shops.  Whether I am allowed to sell them or not is something I am still trying to figure out.

I get a lot of my designs from free templates online.  I put them together in my own way and mostly use bits and pieces of the template, but the design still belongs to someone else.  The mushroom shape is something I purchased, so I could sell those right?  Who knows, as long as I am having fun creating them, that is the only thing that matters.

I also created tags with an elephant, squirrel and whale.  I packaged large and small tags together.

The whales are my favorite.  I like the water droplets on these tags.

But I must say, the squirrels come in a close second.

Charlie likes the elephants the best.

Another one just for me.

A few posts ago, I told you about my favorite patterned paper.  It is the one on the top right in this picture.  This patterned paper is my favorite paper.  I love the colors, I love the pattern and I love the contrast.

I have discovered, through much trial and error, that it does not work in many of my designs.  It doesn't work as a backdrop because many things can get lost in this pattern.  It does not work as the top layer with the details, because the details get lost.  The colors are too bright, the background is too dark and the pattern is too small.  Nonetheless, this is my favorite.

So I decided to make another project just for me and just for this pattern.  This is an 8x8 frame that I had around the apartment that wasn't in use.  I put it to good use by using it to display my favorite paper.

Now I get to enjoy it everyday and I'm totally fine with that.

Carlotta

The bookmarks from my previous post were not the first ones I made, but  they were my favorites.  I started with a design that I did not like once it was all put together.  So I threw them out and started from scratch.

This is the next set I made; a set for Charlotte.  The days of the week are in Spanish and there is a little mushroom in the bottom corner.  Char has a thing for mushrooms.

This was a learning experience for me.  I thought it would be easier to see the words if the pattern was on the bottom layer, but I was wrong.  I think this design might have worked if  the top layer was darker.  I still like how they turned out, though.

I think my favorite part of these bookmarks is the different mushrooms and the pattern on the paper.

And since I'm all about using the scarps, I created tags for Char to use.

I decided to put the mushrooms on the plain side so that both sides had something interesting.

I'm having way too much fun with this machine.  Unfortunately, all the fun I'm having at my desk means that the apartment is being seriously neglected.  Anyone want to volunteer to clean?  Yeah, I wouldn't volunteer either.  It's pretty bad.

Presents

Me: "Hi, my name is Ginner and I'm addicted to the Silhouette machine."

Everyone else: "Hi Ginner."

These bookmarks are my latest project.  Mom said that she wanted some bookmarks for her cook books.  So I made some with the weekdays to help her stay organized (like she needs any help). Technically, the bookmarks in this picture are for Esther.

Mom's bookmarks have a spool of thread on them instead of a bird.

The whole point of this machine is to recycle the little pieces.  So that is what I did.  I took the bird cut outs from Esther's bookmarks and made tags.

I think I need to start using a different backdrop for these pictures.  I'm too accessible to Charlie and the carpet is pretty freaking ugly.  I always take my pics here because I get natural lighting that is diffused by my curtains, so it's not too harsh.

But Charlie thinks that picture time is play time.

Just for me

I have been doing a lot of projects for other people on my Silhouette machine.  I enjoy making things for others and the anticipation of know if they will like it.  Another reason I was making things for other people was because I had no idea what to make for myself.  Then I had an epiphany!

I took this photo of Charlie the other day when I was home.  I had wanted her to look at me, but she decided to look elsewhere, go figure.   Turns out this was just what I needed.

With a little help from Photoshop (ok, a lot) I turned the photo into a silhouette.  I like that you can see how scruffy she is.  You can even see her fu-manchu.  I never could have cut this out by myself, so it's a good thing I didn't have too.

I started by picking my papers.  The paper at the top with the leaves is my favorite paper.  I have been saving it for a special project because I only have a few sheets.

But, alas, it was not to be.  My machine and I were not communicating well.  The silhouette killed my dreams and ruined my paper.  Oh well, I'm over it.

The finished project.  I love how it turned out.  It wasn't exactly how I planned, but I like this better.  You can clearly see my pooch and the quote.

Now I just need to decide where to hang it...

Since writing the above, I have decided to make a change.  At first, I liked the letters without the insides. Not anymore.  I've been staring at it all night and I hate it.  So here is the real finished product:

Much better, if I do say so myself.
