The Saddest Thing in My Apt.

I know there is an adorable pooch in this photo, but try to focus on the mirror.  I got this mirror at TJ Maxx WEEKS ago, yet it sits on the floor waiting to be hung.

It's so depressing.  I love this mirror, I want to hang it up, but I'm too nervous to do it myself.  I want it to go on the wall over the computer, but I have zero confidence in myself to hang this mirror without help.  I don't want it falling onto my beloved (and expensive) computer.

Check out those directions.  It involves several things I do not yet have and several skills I do not yet have.  So until I get some help, I will just have to admire my mirror as it sits on the floor.

For a very inspiring baby

A few weeks ago, I made two onesies for a friend.  He's a preemie and a very strong little guy.  Talk about some good inspiration.

Something small and wonderful

My work keys have been a constant pain in my butt.  The key card and ID had a hole for the key ring, but it quickly broke.  Every time I pull my keys out of my pocket the card and the keys separate.  Lovely.  I have been searching for a card holder since October, no lie.  I had some strict rules for this card holder.

1. It has to be small because it has to fit in my back pocket.
2. It has to be thin because it has to fit in my back pocket.
3. It has to be cute just because it has to be cute.

Finding a card holder to fit that description has been surprisingly difficult.  I started with all the usual suspects: Office Max, Office Depot, Walmart and Target.  No such luck.  This weekend I was out shopping with some friends and we went into a store with some Vera Bradly purses.  I found this perfect little luggage tag and knew my long search had finally come to a wonderful end.

All I had to do was attach the key ring, use pliers to fix the stretched out key ring, cut off the long handle and.... viola!  A small, thin and even cute card holder is born.

Also, look how good my calla lilies are doing!

A Visitor

We had a visitor Sunday night; an unwanted visitor.  It drove Charlie crazy for a very long time.  She even ignored her dinner, and that is very unlike Charlie.

Hey little buddy, go away.

I should just let Charlie out and see what happens.

Put a Bird on It

Before I show you what I made, you must watch this video.

Ok, now that you understand the joke...

When I make something for someone else I usually like to see them open the present.  I like to see the reaction, but since I won't get to see Charlotte get this, I'm figured I might as well just spoil the surprise.  Cam won't understand any of these jokes at any time in his life, but Esther and I have decided that he can be our billboard anyway.

It still impresses me every time that I can get edges that look so nice just by using freezer paper.

Bath Time

Charlie was starting to get stinky, so it was time for a bath.  Preparation is key.

After being in the bathroom for about 2 minutes while I got the water ready, she had already started panting.

What is it about a wet dog that makes them look so pathetic?  This picture is a little blurry, but I had to get at least one of her all wet.  Plus, I had to be very quick because she was ready to escape.

After sprinting around the apartment, Charlie uses my couch as her towel.  You're about to see why preparation is important...

Don't worry.  She got her revenge.  On the bright side, at least I don't have to take her out for awhile.

Believe it or not, this is a resting position.

Weed or Plant?

Let's play a game.  It's called "Weed or Plant?"  Now, I'm no gardener, but this sure looks like a weed to me.

But apparently, I'm wrong.  I still think it looks like a weed though; a very tall, view spoiling weed.

Me? I'm going with weed on this one.

Once again, I must be wrong.

Until I have evidence to the contrary, I'm calling this one a weed.

Now, those of you who are gardeners are probably annoyed with my attitude, but this is just too chaotic for me.  I can't handle the utter chaos that is my front landscaping.  There is no containment, no organization.  It's a hot mess if I've ever seen one.

I'm Under Attack

Welcome to my patio jungle war zone.  The weather has been so lovely lately that I have been finding excuses to spend time on the patio.  But the patio is not very pleasing to the eye.  One of these days those plants will cover the whole patio and start making their way into my apartment.

Spending time on the patio comes with some problems.  The main problem is that Charlie is constantly looking for escape.  The corner where there are no plants is a very dangerous corner.  If she really wanted to, she could scoot right under and be gone in a flash.  And, if you own a terrier, you know how frightening that thought can be.

Then she spends the rest of the time trying to figure out if she can fit through.  She searches out the lowest points of grass and then stalks it.  This is one of those times when being chubby is a good thing.  If she was 15 lbs, like a healthy border terrier, then she'd fit right through.  Oh Charlie, I love your chub.

Another reason I love spending time out there is my fuchsia plant.  It's beautiful.  I've never seen a flower like this and I love it.  I don't usually want plants, but recently I've had the need to care for something.  A flower is low maintenance and beautiful.  Perfect.

Another downside of the patio - a horrible view.  Those flowers (yes, they are flowers) bloom for about a week and then I get to stare at this all summer.  If I even remotely had a green thumb, I'd rip them out in a heartbeat.

Bubble Bath and Cameron

Mom, don't freak out, I think there is a method to this maddness.  But needless to say, we all miss you.

Cam is very good at multitasking, he can push Charlie away and try to turn on the dishwasher at the same time.  Also, this was from mulching day, so that is why the other foot in this picture is dirty.  Just saying...

I love this picture...mostly I love the toes in this picture.  I do the exact same thing with my toes when I am concentrating!  Two peas in a pod us two.

Cam knew what button to push to turn on the dishwasher and I'm sure we have Grandma to thank for that.  He turned it on, and then he kept pushing it until we told him to stop.  Buttons are so exciting!

Bath time with Cam is so fun.  Esther and I were really looking forward to it.  Mom had even gotten us some bubble bath to test out with Camo.  Things were going well...

But apparently, giving Cam a bath right before bed time is a horrile decision.  We made it about 5 minutes before a very slippery Cameron tried to climb right out of the tub.  We managed to keep him in until we got him cleaned up, but it was all hands on deck.  I held him in the tub while Esther cleaned him off and then we switched.  Have you ever given a kid a bath as they cry five inches from you face? It was torturous.  I felt so bad.

We just hope we haven't traumatized him for life. And even if we did...we'll just blame it on Mom and her bubbles.

Hutch Love

Mom was here last Sunday and we spend some time sewing.  I told her I wanted a little runner (is that the right word?) for my hutch.  I think without a clear coat on the hutch, it will always be tacky.  And I'll tell you what, I'm definitely not painting that sucker again.

To stop the tackiness, Mom sewed me a small runner with some leftover fabric from my quilt.  I'm in love with it!  Gotta love homemade goodness.

Peekaboo Pooch

This is a picture of my pooch on her third birthday.  The festivities included a nap, a trip to petsmart for a new toy and then another nap.  I did not participate in those naps, but Charlie sure enjoyed them.

Mom was here a few days ago and we were looking at the quilt she is making me.  We laid it out on the bed  to take a look and Charlie hopped right up there.  I think she approves and I'm a big fan too.  I love it and I can't wait until it's done!

The Smell of Mulch

Saturday was mulching day.  Everyone was involved, even Charlie.

The landscaping before: brown, bland and boring.  In case you're wondering, that rope leads to Charlie.  I love my pooch, but she would run away in a heartbeat, so the leash is a must.

Mulch and a few flowers can change a lot.

It was all hands on deck on this gorgeous day, unless you were assigned to watch the baby.

Getting assigned to watch Camo is like winning the lottery.

I love this little guy, but getting him to smile for the camera is like, well, winning the lottery.  You can never win if you don't try.  And Cam, one of these days I'll win and you'll smile when I snap a picture!

Cam gets sidetracked easily.  He doesn't stay focused on the work when his bff is close by.

So close and yet so far.

I'm not exactly sure what it is, but something about this photo makes me laugh.

If you would just start walking big boy, you wouldn't be so bored.

When we only had 3 trees left, the rain was close at hand.  We all piled in the car as the windstorm began and rushed to finish.  The rain started falling just as we were cleaning up.  We are good.

ps.  Char, don't hate me for posting this photo.  I love it!
