Busy

It's been over a week since my last post. Don't worry - I have a good reason...in fact I have about 50 good reasons.

Things have started to pile on. I don't know why, in the middle of the year, I have become very, very busy. Though it might be because, all of a sudden, I have a lot going on. They are all great things - but they can pile up.

1. I'm going to be a bridesmaid in two weddings this summer - which I am completely ecstatic about!
2. I am going to be an aunt soon. While that doesn't have a lot to do with me, it has resulted in number 3...
3. I am trying to get my work done ahead of time so I can call off at a moments notice to go home when the baby comes. Dear Baby Grosso, March 5th would be perfect. Love, Your Favorite Aunt.
4. I have taken on a new project at school that I am very, very excited about - but it requires a lot of preparation.
5. I forget things all the time, thus I am spending much needed time doing forgotten things. This is the reason I had to drive all the way back home after arriving in York. It is also the reason I had to meet my Mom is Lancaster tonight because I forgot my debit card. I hate forgetting.

Lists have become my new best friends (as you can see from above). I can't do anything unless it is on the list.

This is the list I worked on tonight:
1. 2nd Grade Health Lesson
- books
- punch holes
2. Picture Day Lessons: I knew tomorrow was picture day...but for some strange reason I forgot (go figure) that the cameras would be in the gym - therefore, no Fitness classes tomorrow. Therefore, I need new lesson plans. ASAP.
3. Blog

I find it very sad that I had to add to my list something that I enjoy doing. Blogging is fun for me. I like blogging, even if you don't like what I blog about. I enjoy the process and I like working it out in my head. Sadly, it was on my to-do list tonight because I have not had time for it.

But though it feels like everything has piled on - I have something going on that I love. Mel and I have decided to have one night a week without internet and tv. I'll write more about it later, but I wanted to share that I have renewed my love of reading. So I'm off to read The Girl with the Pearl Earring. Goodnight!

Shoveling

Last night I went out to start clearning off my car. After an hour I was about halfway done and decided that was far enough for one night. I went back in to get Charlie for her next potty break. Then we went out and took a short walk.

The crumbly snow on the top is what I shoveled away from my car. It was a long process and it took forever! That pile is taller than I am, so it did get pretty hard to throw the snow up on top of it.

This was my welcome after my hour of shoveling. Charlie got into the trash and had a good ol' time eating leftovers. Gross.

Oh it's a blizzard alright...

This first photo is my favorite. Charlie isn't a snow digger - so all the snow on her face is the snow that's fallen from the sky.

SNOW! Update

Hopefully this will be the last potty break of the night because it is freezing out there! In spite of it all...I am loving this! If it keeps coming down like this we will be having a 2 hour delay on Thursday!

My informal finger measurement tells me that we are 3.5 inches deep in the fluffy white stuff! It's only been snowing for 4 hours! Keep it coming!

I really don't understand how people live without this stuff.

That's my car...can't wait to dig it out tomorrow. At least I have a shovel now!

The entrance to Charlie's fort...can't wait to dig that out tomorrow either!

Uh oh - time to go. I hear digging in the bedroom. I have a feeling it's the trash, because it's always the trash!

SNOW!

Yesterday I made Charlie a little toilet outside. Today I took her out with me and expanded that small place into a sweet little puppy fort. Charlie felt trapped at first, but she finally got the hang of it.

She likes to eat the snow.

It's the ears. And the nose. Oh and the eyes too. They always get me. Every stinkin' time.

This is a glimpse at my fort. Which, I might add, only broke down its defenses one time. She swam through the ocean of snow to get to the neighbors dog. Then she realized that she was free - and she took off. Don't worry - I eventually caught her.

Snow became a treat - once it came from my hand.

There it is...that face again.

Here is a video of my baby enjoying her fort. You'll notice that several times she goes to the entrance and contemplates leaving...well...escaping. Here's what's happening. Charlie runs to my side of the fort, steals some snow, and runs it back to her area. That is where she eats it, decides she's still hungry, and returns to steal more snow from me.

The Snow

I love the snow. I love everything about it. I especially love 2 hour delays...even when I wake up at 7am thinking I'm late, fly out of bed, then spend 40 minutes trying to fall back asleep until I really need to get up.

Charlie likes the snow, too. She likes to eat it and she likes to pee on it. Last night I arrived back at my apartment to mounds and mounds of snow. Being in the "city" makes me realize that there really isn't anywhere to put it except...up. All you can do is keep piling it up. Since the snow is deeper than Charlie, I decided I'd better dig her a place to go out.

I refused to drive to walmart last night - that is just too long of a drive in this weather. Even if I only go there for one thing it takes me an hour to get home again. So after going to 4 other places I finally went to Giant (I should have gone there first). I got myself a shovel and dug out a place for Charlie to go.

This morning I woke up to Charlie barking at the plow. I can't blame her for barking, he plowed over her toilet. He pushed all the snow right into it. Oh well. Another 10 minutes of hard labor is good for the body.

I've decided today that when I get home I'm going to dig a nice big space in front of my apartment and then when Charlie and I are inside I'm going to close it off. That way she can play in the snow and I don't have to worry about her escaping.

I'll let you know how it goes. I'll take my camera out so you can see how deep the snow is. IT IS AWESOME. We are supposed to get another foot on Wednesday. YES!

Charlie Plays the Piano!!

I am so excited about this! We learned a technique last Sunday at class that helps our dog gain confidence. Here are the basics:

We place a strange object on the floor. In the beginning you click and treat when the dog even looks at it. Then you click/treat any time they try something new or explore a new surface of the object. Then you click/treat for each new action. The trick is to click at the right time and put the treat on the object. Charlie was given a little piano.

It's so awesome to see her little mind working. You can see that she does something and then gets a treat, then she'll do it again. But I trimmed out all the boring stuff (you can thank me later), so all you will be seeing is my cute pooch playing the piano. At first it is just an accident...but she figures it out real quick!

One of the neatest things is that I didn't tell her to do anything - she figured it out all by herself. Another thing I love is that you can't see my body so it just looks like I have super long arms.
